Strategic Research Focus: Corrosion Science and Graphene Technologies at Al-Ayen University
At Al-Ayen Iraqi University, we are committed to addressing some of the most pressing scientific and industrial challenges through our strategic research funding and grant support. Over the past two years, our focus has significantly intensified in two critical domains: corrosion and corrosion inhibitors, and graphene-based materials and applications.
Corrosion and Corrosion Inhibitors
Corrosion poses a substantial threat to infrastructure, industry, and national economy—particularly in environments like Iraq's oil and gas sector. Recognizing this, our university has:
- Funded multiple grants dedicated to corrosion science:
- 2023: One specialized grant under code TT-2023-018.
- 2024: Two additional grants (AUIQ-RFP2024-CI & AUIQ-2024-001) exploring innovative corrosion inhibitors and sustainable mitigation techniques.
2. Encouraged interdisciplinary collaborations across chemical engineering, materials science, and nanotechnology.
These efforts aim to develop environmentally friendly inhibitors, optimize protective coatings, and enhance material lifespan—contributing both to scientific knowledge and industrial resilience.
Graphene Research Expansion (2024)
Graphene, a revolutionary 2D material, has also become a key pillar in our 2024 research agenda. This year:
- Multiple grants were approved focusing on graphene synthesis, characterization, and its integration into sensors, composites, and energy devices.
- Several peer-reviewed publications have already emerged from these projects, strengthening the university’s academic footprint in the region and globally.
